Three Star Offset Printing Offers Touché® Paper Stock

Three Star Offset Printing Offers Touché® Paper Stock.

Long Island, New York Offset and Digital Printing Company offers Touché® Paper “Soft Touch” aqueous paper adds richness to your printing.

Want to raise your printed message from “ho hum” to sensuous? “Soft Touch” aqueous coating will add a sumptuous feel to your printed piece. When the reader holds a “Soft Touch” coated brochure she/he senses that the product described in it is far above the ordinary.

Three Star Offset Printing, Freeport, New York recommends this unusual coating, which in addition to its unique tactile properties and economical application, is an environmentally friendly coating with zero VOC content. Aqueous coated paper can be recycled easily while UV or plastic coated papers cannot.

Knepper Press applies “Soft Touch” coating in-line along with the printed image. No off-line treatment is required. While “Soft Touch’ costs slightly more than conventional aqueous coatings, it is much more cost effective than alternative off-line matte film laminating or matte UV coating.

“Soft Touch” is non-yellowing. It dries quickly and therefore allows fast press speeds and turn around times. Like all other matte coatings “Soft Touch” tends to flatten the image slightly. We recommend a good quality gloss paper as the substrate for the best results. With it we achieve maximum ink holdout and superior contrast.

Konica Minolta Business Solutions and Komori America previewed the KM-1/IS29 23×29˝ UV color inkjet press. It combines Konica Minolta UV inkjet print head and ink technology with a new sheet transport system, cylinder configuration and sheet reversal mechanism from Komori to print cut-sheet pages at 3,300 sheets/hr. simplex, and 1,650 sheets/hr. duplex.

More than half of Xerox’s booth was dedicated to production inkjet technology, including the CiPress 500 Single Engine Duplex (SED) production inkjet system. Compatible with waterless solid inks, it prints duplex jobs in a single frame at 500 or 325 fpm. Also shown was the Impika iPrint Compact, a single-engine, duplexing production inkjet system for transactional, transpromo and direct mail applications.

Canon U.S.A. offered attendees a virtual reality look at its new high-volume “Niagara” sheetfed color inkjet digital press. Featuring a patented four-color ink system (with a planned future extension of up to six stations), it will provide B3 sheetfed color inkjet printing on standard coated and uncoated offset media at speeds of up to 3,800 duplexed B3 sheets/hr. and up to 8,500 duplexed letter sheets/hr., with volumes of up to 10 million letter-size images per month.

Ricoh’s InfoPrint 5000 GP platform was shown in an H configuration. The InfoPrint 5000 MP line has now been upgraded to allow for printing in I, L, U and H configurations. This also includes dual simplex printing capability so users can drive the two print engines printing separate applications, on two kinds of paper, at two different speeds. The InfoPrint 5000 GP Color now handles page lengths up to 54˝ and an extended media handling option enables paper weights up to 250 gsm.

Fujifilm debuted the J Press 540W inkjet web press, which is ideal for the short-run production of leaflets, magazines, textbooks, manuals and newspapers. It features a single tower, compact footprint design with a single-pass duplex system that can easily adjust registration of both front and back sides. Printing at speeds up to 417 fpm, the J Press 540W allows flexibility in paper cut-off sizes. It uses Fujifilm’s FM-based screening technology and high-performance VIVIDIA ink.

Long Island Commercial Printer Environmentally Friendly Green Inks

Long Island Commercial Printer Environmentally Friendly Green Inks

Three Star Offset Printing, located on Long Island, in Freeport, uses soy and other vegetable-based inks which are less harmful to the environment than their petroleum-based counterparts. Soy and vegetable products are used in printing ink for their oils, which act as the vehicle for the ink pigments. There are several types of vegetable-based offset printing inks, including linseed (Flax), tung (Chinawood), castor, canola, and safflower.  If you would like more information regarding this stock or a sample of our work please feel free to give us a call at 516-867-8223 or send us an email.

Soy is popular because it is a very stable material that exhibits excellent “wetting” properties which enhance its ability to carry solid pigments. Most manufacturers of soy and vegetable based inks today actually “blend” ingredients, much in the way a winemaker will blend grapes, in order to take advantage of the unique characteristics of each oil.

Long Island Commercial Printer Three Star Offset Printing located in Freeport, New York uses soy and other vegetable-based offset printing inks which are less harmful to the environment than their petroleum-based counterparts. There are several types of vegetable-based printing inks, including linseed (Flax), tung (Chinawood), castor, canola, and safflower.

Soy and vegetable based inks are widely recognized as the environmentally friendly choice. But an ink’s ingredients are only part of the story when measuring its environmental impact. Ink, like any other product manufactured by humans, impacts our planet before, during, and after it’s manufactured.

Some portion of raw materials are emitted into the atmosphere during both the manufacture and printing of ink. The heightened environmental consciousness of recent years has resulted in a campaign to reduce VOC’s (Volatile Organic Compounds) in inks. Three Star Printing uses soy and vegetable-based inks that have evolved to VOC levels of 12 percent which are not derived from an ozone depleting solvent, down from conventional commercial sheet fed inks that measure VOC levels of 25-35 percent. As with any new or modified product, there were early failures and Soy-based inks came under attack in the press room because drying and adhesion suffered. But gradually, high performance inks have emerged, with vastly reduced VOC’s. Printers, print buyers and environmentalists have learned that low VOC inks can be produced from a wide variety of vegetable oils, not just soy, and we at Three Star Printing adhere to our standard of using the lowest VOC rated inks available. And, as part of our Green Business Certification, we at Three Star Printing adhere to practices that minimize the release Volatile Organic Compounds from inks into the atmosphere.

Almost as important as the manufacture and use of vegetable inks is the recycle and reuse programs implemented by the printer. Anything a printer does to steer materials from landfills is of environmental benefit. In this area, Three Star Printing abides by the following criteria:

  1. We tightly control our inventory and scheduling practices, ordering only the quantities of ink we need.
  2. We recycle unused inks.
  3. We specify “low VOC” or “vegetable based inks” rather than asking only for soy. Some non-soy vegetable inks are actually lower in VOC than soy.
